Seeking Simple Pleasures
With so many things to choose from to watch on TV, I often find myself returning to watch something familiar—an episode that I’ve seen 10 times before.
When life feels overwhelming, finding comfort in old TV show favourites can feel like spending time with old friends. Knowing that something will turn out OK in the end helps when things in life can feel so unpredictable.
Perhaps returning to a series you have enjoyed reminds you of a particular stage in your life; university, school, sitting with loved ones, and a time when things felt easier?
To give you an idea of what brings me that sense of peace, here are my current comfort TV picks:
My Current Comfort TV Picks:
- Frasier
- Schitt’s Creek
- Flight of the Conchords
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- Modern Family
Rewatching these shows doesn’t mean you are stuck in the past; it just means you have noticed when it’s time to stop, slow down, and recharge.
What about you? What is your ultimate comfort TV show when you need to hit pause and recharge?
I’m a super lazy cook and a massive slow cooker fan, so now the sun’s shining I decided to test out this summery chicken and chorizo stew. It’s proper comfort food with zero faff, leaving more time for the all-important self-care – and we all need more time for that!

This month I’ve been listening to On The Mend.
Recovering addict Matt Willis invites guests for honest conversations about healing,
growth, and resilience in his entertaining podcast on recovery and mental health.
What I love about it?
Listening to real-life experiences and reflections, Matt keeps the show feeling down to earth while reducing stigma and shame around addiction and mental health,
without any jargon!
Why it’s worth a look?
Great guests, thought provoking, and a reminder that nobody is perfect and we are
not alone.
Check out…
The Larry Lamb episode, “Life Beyond Gavin and Stacey.”
Larry reflects on his childhood, his relationship with his father, and what he has
learned from parenting and ageing, including a moving poem about children leaving
home. His key message: “Be nice to as many people as you can!”
On The Mend is available to watch on YouTube or listen to on Spotify or Apple
Music.
